About

The Lakeside Heritage Society, Inc., founded in 1968, is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving and exhibiting the history of Lakeside Chautauqua and the Marblehead Peninsula. The society’s museum, archives and educational programs are supported through membership dues, donations and proceeds from annual benefit sales, books and special projects.

Heritage Hall Museum & Archives Center

Heritage Hall Museum, open to visitors without charge, is located at 238 Maple Ave., on the corner of Maple Avenue and Third Street. Summer hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 1:30-4 p.m. Sunday (closed Monday). The Museum Gift Shop features books, toys and maps.

Museum exhibits include artifacts, documents, photographs, antiques and memorabilia from the Lakeside Chautauqua experience, Lakeside businesses, lodgings, restaurants, transportation and recreation, as well as glassware and Civil War artifacts, plus history of the Marblehead Peninsula. Children ages 6-12 will enjoy the museum treasure hunt activities.

The Heritage Society Archives Center, located at 210 Walnut Ave., provides a staff archivist to assist visitors in researching information about Lakeside among the many collections of photographs, documents, maps, books, etc. The Archives Center summer hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Programming

Every summer, the Lakeside Heritage Society offers programming, including Sunday lectures, historic walking tours and Chautauqua Movement seminars. Read the weekly Lakesider newspaper for the most up-to-date information or view online.
